When Is the Best Time to Buy Your Prom Dress for 2027? 👗✨

4 min read

If you're searching for your Prom 2027 dress, you might be wondering: when should I actually start shopping?

Our answer? September to February is the sweet spot. 💕

While you can find prom dresses throughout the year, shopping during these months gives you the best opportunity to see the newest collections, have plenty of choice and secure your dream dress before popular styles and sizes start disappearing.

At Little Lolls Boutique, our Prom 2027 collection is already arriving, with our biggest selection of dresses available to shop in-store.

So, if you're wondering whether it's too early to start looking… it isn't!

💕 September – The New Collection Begins

September is when things really start getting exciting.

New prom collections begin arriving in boutiques, meaning you can be one of the first to see the newest colours, silhouettes, fabrics and designs for the season ahead.

At Little Lolls, our exclusive Alisha Lauren collection launches in-store from September, alongside our wider Prom 2027 collection.

Shopping early also means you aren't rushing into a decision. You can try different shapes, colours and styles and discover what you actually love.

September is perfect if you want first pick.

🍂 October – One of the Busiest Times to Shop

October is when prom shopping really starts to pick up.

With the new collections in-store and October half term giving students more free time, appointments can become extremely busy.

It's a fantastic time to shop because there is still a huge amount of choice, but more girls are beginning to find their dresses.

At Little Lolls, October half term is typically one of our busiest periods, so booking your appointment in advance is definitely recommended.

✨ November & December – Still Plenty of Choice

If September or October has passed, don't panic!

November and December are still fantastic months to find your prom dress.

By this point, you'll have a good idea of the year's biggest trends and there will still be plenty of gorgeous styles to choose from.

This is also a great time to start thinking about:

  • Your preferred colour

  • Ballgown vs fitted

  • Corset vs zip-up backs

  • Sparkle vs satin

  • Your budget

  • Your accessories and shoes

The earlier you decide, the more time you have to organise everything else around your prom look.

🎀 January – Don't Leave It Too Late

January is often when we see another big wave of prom shoppers.

Christmas is over, prom is getting closer and suddenly everyone is thinking:

“I need to find my dress!”

There can still be lots of choice in January, but popular styles can begin selling to schools.

At Little Lolls, we offer school dress exclusivity, meaning once a gown has been purchased for a school, we register it and won't sell the same gown to another student at that school.

That means if you've fallen in love with a particular dress, it's better not to leave your decision until the last minute.

⏰ February – Your Final Sweet Spot

February is the month we'd really recommend getting your dress sorted.

Many prom dress designers have ordering cut-off dates around February half term, which means leaving your purchase until later can reduce the options available to you.

Other prom boutiques also recommend September–February as the ideal shopping window because it allows enough time for dresses to be ordered and prepared for summer proms.

So if you're still searching in February, don't panic — but don't wait much longer either!

👗 What Happens If I Shop After February?

You can absolutely still find your prom dress after February.

However, you may have fewer options when it comes to:

Sizes: Popular sizes can sell quickly.

Colours: Certain colours and shades may become harder to find.

Styles: The most popular gowns can sell to multiple schools.

Ordering: Some designers may have already reached their ordering deadlines.

Alterations: You'll have less time to organise fittings and alterations before your prom.

That's why we always say:

The earlier you shop, the more choice you have.

💗 So, When Should YOU Shop?

Here's our simple guide:

September: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Best for first access to new collections and maximum choice.

October: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Fantastic choice, but expect busy appointments around half term.

November: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Still an excellent time to shop.

December: ⭐⭐⭐⭐Great choice and plenty of time before prom.

January: ⭐⭐⭐⭐Still a great time, but popular styles are starting to disappear.

February: ⭐⭐⭐Still possible to find your dream dress, but don't delay!

March onwards: ⭐⭐Choice can become more limited and designer ordering deadlines may have passed.

💕 Our Biggest Piece of Advice?

Don't wait until everyone else is shopping.

Your prom dress should be exciting — not something you're desperately trying to find at the last minute.

Starting between September and February gives you the time to try different styles, find the colour you love, secure your favourite dress and enjoy the experience rather than feeling rushed.

And remember, you don't need to know exactly what you want before you come in.

That's what we're here for. ✨

At Little Lolls Boutique, our private prom appointments give you 90 minutes with a dedicated stylist, with hundreds of gowns to choose from.
