2023 PROM COSTS

In the excitement around prom, it's easy to forget that the costs of attending the event can really add up fast - There is a lot for us girls to think about!

The dress, shoes, hair, pictures, and prom tickets, but don't forget the other extras that you may want to enjoy, like makeup, nails and after prom activities!

When you consider all of the possible prom costs, it becomes clear that budgeting is key.

The average costs for prom can vary by year and region, but if you start planning early, you can save and budget for the prom night you've always wanted.

We recommend to start saving for prom as early as one year ahead of time so that the costs of prom don't sneak up on you quickly and the experience can e a stress free as possible.

Prom ticket - Approx £30-£60

The cost of prom tickets is usually determined by the venue and the type of food provide (buffet or sit down dinner). Be sure to get yours early, especially if the venue has limited capacity. The last thing you want is to miss out on the whole thing because you waited too long to buy the ticket.

Prom Dress - Approx £80-£650

The prom dress itself will most likely be the most expensive part of attending prom.

If possible, plan your look ahead of time so you can shop seasonal sales which usually run anywhere from March - September.

Choose the place you shop wisely. Some shops stock the same items at different prices so it is worth doing your research on the stores before you visit and go in with a clear budget of what you want to spend. We do not recommend trying anything on that is out of budget - even thought it is very tempting sometimes!

Shoes - Approx £15-£45

If you're wearing heels we highly recommend a block heel as opposed to a stiletto as stilettos tend to catch the material/make irreparable damage.

Stores we recommend include Linzi, Simmi Shoes, Ego Official, Quiz and New Look.

If your wearing flats - anything goes! Converse have proven very popular in recent years but ensure these are allowed in the venue beforehand.

Makeup £25- £45

The big choice here is whether to go the DIY route or go to a professional.

Do you have friends or a family member who is an MUA or is just great at makeup? This is a great way to save on costs. Maybe you can beat your face like a pro on your own? You do not necessarily need a professional to do your makeup - but if you do, make sure you book early and at a mid-morning/early lunch time slot if you can to make sure your makeup lasts all day. We also do recommend having a trial if you are not familiar with the individual although this does add to the costs.

Hair £35 - £60

The big choice here is whether to go the DIY route or go to a professional.

Do you have friends or a family member who does hair? This is a great way to save on costs. You do not necessarily need a professional to do your hair. We also do recommend having a trial on a day you are visiting for a prom fitting if you are not familiar with the individual although this does add to the costs. This way you can also see how the hair trial looks with the dress to decide if you like the look.

Nails - Approx £20-£50

BIA, Manicure, Acrylic or Mani-pedi? Make sure you've booked your appointment early and you've decided on your colour. Fresh nails is always a great way to complete the look, although not essential.

Jewellery - Approx £50

Prom jewellery is all about creating a cohesive look, not necessarily spending big.

There’s plenty of jewellery out there that looks stunning without being designer.

Bag - Approx £10-25

If your prom dress doesn’t have pockets (side note – we LOVE a dress with pockets) then having something to safely carry your cell phone and essentials is a must.

Travel - Approx £0-£100+

This is a difficult one as the costs vary greatly!

Some choose to travel alone, which, if hiring a car as transport can add up very expensive, some choose to travel as a group which can ring costs down.

Limos and party busses are a great way to travel as a group.

Do you have anyone you know with a nice car? Ask for a favour!

Afterparty dress - Approx £30-£50

Seem's sad to take off your gorgeous prom gown - but the last thing you want to do is get it ruined! We think its cute to match your prom dress colour to your after party dress.

Although, your final destination for the evening will determine the type of outfit you need.

Hope this helps - Have the best night ever!
